Deep South Tournament,
Raleigh, NC April 15-17th 2011

Friday morning the AB Future 14U team played an inspiring game against deep shooting team Tenn Lady Magic team at Duke Univ.'s Card arena. Playing at 8am, the girls used great defense to trigger their offense. The top of defense,Britani Stowe, Serena Brown and Alisha Berry created bad passes and Candace Beverly,  Carmen Beverly, Kaya Coleman Marshuana Butler and Ryan Maynard capitalized on the opportunity for steals and easy baskets. Alexis Newbold, Breile Bryson and Kailyn Ebb controlled the offensive and defensive glass. The girls used a strong half to win 39-29, lead by RyanMaynard with 10pts.
In the 2nd game the AB Future girls started very slow offensively and were not able to recover in their loss to the United Basketball team from Texas Friday evening 44-33 at North Carolina State Univ. The team was lead by Britani Stowe 9 pts and Candice Beverly with 7 pts.
On Saturday afternoon the Team recovered and again started the game strong and never wavered against the Michigan Monarchs at the Univ. of North Carolina, lead by the 3 point shooting of Marshuana Butler 9 points and Alexis Newbold also 9 pts and game high 8 rebounds. The team overall played well with 31 total rebs, 11 steals and 9 assists.
In the teams final game Sunday morning against the girls of Dayton Metro back at NC State. The Future team started well, but this time faded in the 2nd half, losing 44-37, despite a game high 16 pts from Alexis Newbold and 12 pts from Marshauna Butler on four 3 point shots. For the team, a 2-2 record for their first trip to The Deep South tournament was a learning experience and can only make the team better for the FUTURE. It was great work by Coach T, Coach Matthews and Coach Nikki, getting the girls ready to play and making necessary adjustment during the games. It great job by all!

P.S. Great fan support by the parents and all the other teams!!
